It sucks when you wake up from the most perfect dream!
It's been happening a lot lately so my interest in dreams has increased
I decided to watch a Documentary called, "What Are Dreams?".
Maybe it will leave me a little more peaceful about my dreams!
I am going to write what I learn, so maybe it can help you as well!
Rapid Eye Movement
or
REM Sleep
absolutely calm and unresponsive;
Stage 5 of Sleep
It has been discovered that we have more negative emotions during REM dreams because during REM sleep, the Amygdala is very highly activated.
The Amygdala specializes in handling unpleasant emotions like intense fear or intense anger or aggression.
REM could be a factor in Depression.
People with high Depression go right to REM sleep, and then they stay in REM, and spend too much time in REM.
[There are studies being taken with Rats and their dreams]
In the dreams during REM sleep, memories are replayed, but, they are not compressed, they're not accelerated, they don't occur in small fragments, they were played out as though the animal were experiencing moving through a world, but that world is being generated from the inside.
REM dreams can be 5 times longer than regular dreams, and in human beings, they are anything but a simple replay of the past.
The speculation is that during non-REM sleep, the dream is taking the past is and seeing how that might relate to the future,
and in REM, actually trying to experience the future, move into the future.
The dreams of REM in other words, may be simulations, which allow us to face challenges and tackle possibilities.
It may be that when we're asleep, and when we're dreaming we are actually conscious; figuring out what's important about what happened to us, and how that relates to everything else that's happened to us in the past, and figuring out what that means about our future.
{That makes 100% sense to me pertaining to the dream I had last night}
Do Dreams Mean Anything?
Dreams are relatively transparent and there is good evidence that dreams tend to reflect people's emotional concerns, and also things that preoccupy them in their social lives.
Ah, the questions to my dreams have been answered.
That's why I love Documentaries!
